California State Fair Donates Produce to Sacramento Food Bank

The Sacramento Young Marines, a group of dedicated, disciplined and community-oriented boys and girls, harvested squash and zucchini crops from the California State Fair's farm to donate to the Sacramento Food Bank. To date, they have donated more than 1,000 pounds of fresh fruit and vegetables.

Each year, the state fair's 3.5-acre farm, composed of 70 different crops, produces thousands of pounds of produce. Prior to the state fair, the produce that is harvested is donated to the Sacramento Food Bank. During the fair, the produce is used in cooking demonstrations that teach fairgoers how to make healthy meals using produce they can grow in their own backyards.
The Sacramento Young Marines is a program that teaches boys and girls ages 8 to 18 skills in leadership, discipline and teamwork through the core values of the Marines Corps. The Young Marines help the Sacramento community through various forms of community service while building character and friendships.
